We live in Arizona, but my mom has always wanted to have her ashes scattered at sea, what would I need to do if we chose your service? Thankfully, my mom is in good health right now, but I would like to have all the details taken before hand. We have a cremation policy in place and we have selected an urn that can be used for burial at sea.
Hi Veronica, thank you for contacting me with your question, I will gladly assist you. Everyone seeking to scatter cremated remains off the California coast, must obtain a permit from a local Department of Health. The company who provided your cremation policy, the Mortuary or the Crematory may be able to obtain it for you, since many transactions are being handled electronically now, but if they cannot, it will require a personal visit to a California Department of Health to obtain the document. The Health Dept. will require an original Death Certificate that they will copy and return to you, the permit is then completed while you wait, and the cost is $11.00. Many of my out of state families arrive a day early and visit the Health Dept. in Long Beach to obtain this document, or I can obtain it for you for a fee of $25.00 to cover time and travel, and have it for you when you arrive. The only other thing that needs to be done is reserve a date and time with me to conduct the service. Following the service, I will execute the Permit, and send it with a letter to the county and state agencies for final filing. You will receive a copy of completed Permit and letter for your records.
I hope your Mom continues in good health, for many years to come. Please know that I am available to assist you however you require.
